About

Pieter Buckle - the man himself

I was eleven when I was allowed to use my father’s film camera for the first time on a safari trip in Namibia. I walked down to the watering hole, sat down, and waited for elephants and antelope to come quench their thirst. Five meters away from me, a meerkat went into a hole, only to come out moments later with a huge commotion behind it, a giant King Cobra followed.

I pulled the camera towards my eyes, manually focused the heavy lens and snapped away. I was wildly excited for our trip to end so that we could have the pictures developed. A week later, I returned home to find my father on the couch with a brown envelope - our holiday pictures. The moment I held those photos – my photos! - in my hand, I was hooked. I can still picture the yellow colours of the snake. A memory through a lens, printed on a piece of paper, captured forever.

Ever since then, photography was part of my life. It is my creative outlet. No challenge or task is ever too big for me. I love photography and I love capturing moments.
